Our clinic takes a team approach to meeting the needs of our patients. Not only do our patients receive the vast knowledge that Dr. Rich provides but they also receive the knowledge and fresh eyes of our Physician Assistant Amy Simpson or Dr. Julie Jefferson who is doing a fellowship with Dr. Rich that started in July 2011. Our Medical Assistants are also highly trained and assist the providers with procedures and patient care. 
Phoebe Rich, M.D.
 
Phoebe Rich, M.D. is in private practice in Portland, OR and a Clinical Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at Oregon Health Science University. Her clinical and research interests focus on the study of nail diseases; nail biology, and the medical and surgical management of nail conditions. She has been involved in clinical research in
onychomycosis and fungal and viral infections of the skin as well as many other diseases.
Dr. Rich's published work has appeared in Journal of American Academy of Dermatology,
International Journal of Dermatology, Medical clinics of North America, British Journal of Dermatology, Current Problems in Dermatology, Journal Derm Surgery and Oncology. Dr. Rich has coauthored a textbook and written chapters in several textbooks.
Dr. Rich received her medical degree and Dermatology training at Oregon Health Sciences University. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Oregon Dermatology Society, Woman's Dermatology Society, American Society of Derm Surgery, International Dermatology Society, and the Council for Nail Disorders where she is past president. She serves on several task forces and committees at the AAD and is involved in teaching and lecturing at the University, in the community and nationally.
Dr. Rich has been the principal investigator for over 250 clinical research studies.
 
Amy Simpson, PA-C
 
Amy Simpson, PA-C, has worked in the field of dermatology with Phoebe Rich, MD since
2004. Using a team-based model, Amy works with Dr. Rich to provide a wide variety of
dermatologic care including full skin examinations, treatment of skin cancer and
precancerous conditions, acne, warts, eczema, and psoriasis. She received her degree in
Physician Assistant Studies from Oregon Health Sciences University in 2001. She is co-
founder and past president of Oregon Society of Dermatology Associates, an education
and networking source for PAs and nurse practitioners working in dermatology. Amy also regularly attends educational meetings of the Oregon Dermatology Society, American Academy of Dermatology, and Oregon Society of Physician Assistants. During her free time Amy enjoys spending time with her children and husband, hiking, reading, cooking and traveling.
 
Julie Jefferson, M.D.
 
  Julie Jefferson, M.D. is the current Clinical Research and Nail Disease Fellow for Dr.   Rich.  Dr. Jefferson received her medical degree from the Medical University of South   Carolina in Charleston, SC.  She completed her intern year in the Johns Hopkins   University Sinai Hospital Internal Medicine Program in Baltimore, MD, and she will   begin dermatology residency in July 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in   Kansas City, KS.
  Dr. Jefferson joined our office in July 2011.  She is fully licensed to practice medicine in the state of Oregon, and she assists Dr. Rich in providing dermatologic care for our patients.  Dr. Jefferson is a sub-investigator for many of our clinical research trials and is collaborating with Dr. Rich on several writing projects.
Clinic Staff
 
Our clinic staff is highly trained in dermatology. They are an integral part of our practice
and provide patients with the best possible care and support. Patients will often be seen
by both a medical assistant and a provider. Our medical assistants are trained to assist in
procedures, see emergency patients, they are available for phone consults and have a
vast knowledge of dermatologic conditions and therefore are a huge asset to the clinic.
Our receptionist Nicole and our medical assistants Shannon, Allie, Victoria and Kate are all
here to help.
Research Staff
 
Our research staff has performed over 250 studies in the 20 years that Dr. Rich has
been in practice. They are all trained in study procedures and have a wide range of
dermatologic knowledge. Our research staff is on the cutting edge of new treatments for
psoriasis, nail fungus, acne and so much more. Having such a knowledgeable and
efficient research department allows us all to provide the best possible care to our
